Constitutional Law
Constitutional law is the foundation of good governance, rule of law, justice, and nation-building. Through its broad-ranging constitutional law practice, LAN aims to empower citizens by protecting their fundamental rights, constitutional rights, and human rights. LAN routinely litigates cases involving constitutional issues before the Supreme Court of Nepal. LAN’s attorneys are also engaged in public interest litigation (PIL).
LAN has prioritized four constitutional areas for its work and engagement. They are as follows:
- Equal Citizens
- The Rule of Law
- Social Protection or Social Security
- Robust Market
LAN’s recent cases on constitutional issues have focused on protecting human rights, fundamental freedoms, and consumer rights and promoting good governance, state’s accountability, and the rule of law. LAN is especially active in issues related to social protection or social security. In addition, LAN helps draft laws and analyzes proposed legislation from constitutional and policy perspectives. LAN also engages in various forms of public advocacy and routinely files cases and amicus curie briefs on significant constitutional cases.
